CSUMB’s College Assistance Migrant Program Receives $2.1M Department of Ed Grant

SEASIDE, Ca., August 2, 2019 – California State University, Monterey Bay’s (CSUMB) College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) has been selected to receive a five-year $2,125,000 grant from the United States Department of Education. CAMP is a federally-funded program designed to assist CSUMB’s migrant students and seasonal farmworker first-time freshmen by providing holistic services that assist those students in reaching a level of self-efficacy that ensures their academic and personal success.

Since 2014, CAMP has supported more than 300 students at CSUMB and has seen a 54 percent four-year graduation rate from students who have been a part of the program.

The funding will allow CAMP to offer a comprehensive program of support services and activities to include a Summer Bridge component, bilingual financial aid and college transition workshops, scholarship assistance, cultural, recreational and educational activities, health and counseling screenings and leadership development along with limited follow-up services provided to participants after their first year.

Programs such as CAMP directly support the CSU Graduation Initiative 2025, which is a university-wide initiative to ensure that all students have the opportunity to be successful and graduate according to their personal goals, positively impacting their future and producing additional graduates to power California and the nation.
